ODB denied bail
Friday - December 15, 2000
by Kid Icarus
Wu-Tang's Ol Dirty Bastard was denied bail because authorities consider him a risk to escape again. The rapper ran away from a rehab facility in California in October and was recently caught at a McDonalds in Philly.
During his run from the law, ODB made an appearance at his group's release party for the W, in New York. ODB is in serious trouble, and will be facing charges of breaking parole for his escape, and will have to deal with four outstanding warrants from New York state as well.
A few months ago, hiphopdx.com reported that Busta Rhymes was thinking of leaving Elektra.
Well, he has done it. He was apparently upset with the lack of support for his album Anarchy, which was released this summer and went Platinum.
He will reportedly be joining Clive Davis's new label, J Records. This leaves The Flipmode Squad's future at Elektra up in the air.
A warning to MC`s: Watch what you say

Portland emcee Smurf Luciano, of the group Gangstas on the Move, is in trouble with the law.
That's nothing new for hip-hoppers, but the Portland DA is planning on using Smurf's lyrics against him in court. They singled out the term "packing heat" as proof that he carried a gun.
Smurf was arrested as an accesory to commit a crime when a car he was following was pulled over by police in Vancouver, Washington. Smurf came over to see if his friend was okay, and found that the cops had found three kilos of cocaine in the car. He was promptly arrested.
Should his lyrics be admitted as evidence, it would set a dangerous precedent for all rappers.
While a song may not amount to an admission of guilt, it at least gives the jury a character profile.
Next time you rap about bustin caps, watch your mouth.
Dre: N.W.A reunion is on hold
Wednesday - December 13, 2000
by the411online.com
The N.W.A reunion that was announced just over a year ago might go the route of Dr. Dre and Ice Cube's Helter Skelter. In other words, it might never happen.
"We got a couple things down, nothing that I'm happy with, so they don't mean anything," the ever-meticulous Dr. Dre said in an interview with Sonicnet. "The status of N.W.A right now remains in limbo, because everybody that's supposed to be a part of this record has their own careers, and they're out doing their things. Cube is working on a big special-effect movie, Snoop has a record coming out and is gonna promote that, and I'm working with my new artists, trying to do my thing. I have no idea when that record's gonna happen, or if it's gonna happen."
Dre, Cube and Snoop joined M.C. Ren for a track on the "Next Friday" soundtrack, which was released Dec. 14, 1999, and a performance on Farmclub in March -- their first together in 11 years.
Back in 1994, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube's planned reunion album ended up being relegated to just one song: "Natural Born Killaz," and the N.W.A reunion might end up with two: "Chin Check" and "Hello." Dre also hinted at his normal timetable for an album in the interview.
"Usually it takes between nine and 10 months to produce and make a record that's gonna be hot enough to present to the people."
So if you're still counting on hearing that Dre-produced Rakim album, Oh My God!, by spring, you can forget it. An album with expectations like that (not to mention the title) ought to take Dre at least a year. At least one of his long-delayed projects finally made it into stores on Tuesday -- Xzibit's Restless.

TIMEs Man of the Year... Eminem?
Monday - December 18, 2000
by RicKStaRR
In one of the biggest shockers of the year, HoboMusic.com has reported that Eminem has been voted Times Man of the Year. Time made the choice because of Eminem's impact has been so profound and his detractors so vitriolic that the potty mouth from Detroit has challenged our ideas of what's acceptable".
The official announcement will be made on Time.com on Sunday, December 17th, 2000. Eminem will be joining the likes of such people as Bill Clinton, Charles Lindbergh (first to fly across the Atlantic), Walter P. Chrysler (founded Chrysler Motors), and Dr. Ho (AIDS researcher). This is just another sign of how crazy this world is becoming.
